How to play Chronologic
Chronologic gives you six real historical events and three guesses to arrange them in chronological order, earliest to latest. Drag and drop the cards into the timeline. When you submit, each card lights up green (correct position), yellow (off by one slot), or red (further off). Correct cards lock for your next attempt; the rest can be rearranged. Solve in three guesses or fewer to win the day.
A new puzzle drops every day at midnight UTC. Your streak counts consecutive days played. After the daily puzzle is over you can also play unlimited bonus rounds — bonus rounds don't affect your stats, so the stakes are zero and the practice is free. Use it to warm up before tomorrow's puzzle, or just to keep playing.
How Chronologic helps you actually learn history
Chronologic is built around retrieval practice — the cognitive science finding that the act of trying to recall information (even when you fail) strengthens memory far more than re-reading does. After a few weeks of daily play, the dates that show up most often in the rotation are essentially overlearned. Most players report being able to place dozens of major historical events within a decade after a few months of casual play. Read more in Why daily puzzles make you smarter (the memory science).

Is Chronologic free?
Yes. Cool History Games is fully free and ad-supported. No account required, no signup, no paid tier.

Over 100 well-documented historical events from the Stone Age through the present, including biblical-era and ancient religious history. The puzzle samples six events per day chosen to span at least three different eras for balance.

Yes. After you finish today's official daily puzzle, click "Play another" to start a random practice puzzle. Practice puzzles don't affect your streak or stats.
Does Chronologic work on mobile?
Yes. The drag-and-drop is built with Pointer Events so it works on touch screens, mouse, and stylus equally well.
Is the game classroom-safe?
Yes. No accounts, no chat, no user-generated content, and the AdSense configuration is COPPA-compliant. Many teachers use it as a 60-second bell-ringer.
What if I miss a day — does my streak reset?
Yes, missing a day resets your streak to zero. Your total games played and win percentage are preserved.
