How to play Empire Tycoon

Empire Tycoon is an idle civilization builder that walks you through eight real historical ages: Stone Age β†’ Egypt β†’ Rome β†’ Medieval β†’ Renaissance β†’ Industrial β†’ Modern β†’ Space. Each age has a small set of authentic period buildings β€” a Roman aqueduct in the Rome era, a printing press in the Renaissance, the ISS in the Space Age β€” and each building has a short educational note explaining what it actually was historically.

You start with a single hut and a steady trickle of resources. Tap to collect, then spend to build the next structure. Each building produces resources passively, so even when you're away the empire grows. To advance ages, you need to fully build out the current age's portfolio β€” which means the game rewards both patience and active play. The progression mirrors how civilizations actually unlocked technologies: agriculture, then writing, then engineering, then printing, then steam, and so on.

Tips

Difficulty & play time

Difficulty: easy to medium. Estimated time: a full run through all 8 ages takes 3–6 hours of active play, or a couple of weeks if you idle. Suggested age: 8+. Good for younger players because there's no fail state β€” you can only progress.

Frequently asked questions

Is the history actually accurate?
The buildings and the technological progression are real. We tried to avoid the usual tycoon-game ahistorical jumble β€” every structure in Empire Tycoon is something that real people built in roughly that period.
What happens at the Space Age?
You complete the run with a launch sequence and a summary screen showing every structure you built. Then you can prestige (start over with a permanent multiplier) or keep going in endless mode.
Does my game save?
Yes β€” everything is saved in browser local storage. Idle resources are calculated based on real-world time elapsed since you last visited.
