How to play Pop Defense

Pop Defense is a tower defense game. Balloons (bloons) walk a fixed path across the screen; you place towers along the path to pop them before they reach the end. Each tower has a range, a fire rate, and a damage type. Different colors bring different tricks: lead shrugs off everything except bombs and snipers, camo is invisible to all towers but the sniper, and regen balloons heal as they fly. The strategy is composing a network of towers that covers every threat.

You earn cash by popping balloons and by clearing waves: a clear pays $30 plus $8 per wave number. Spend it on new towers, or click a placed tower twice to upgrade it (three levels max, each level adding damage, range, and reload speed). The game escalates over 25 waves, with the MOAB boss on the last one. Three maps ship with the game, each with path geometry that favors different placements.

Tips

The numbers that matter

You start with $300 and 120 lives; a leaked balloon costs 1 life, a MOAB costs 30. Dart is $80, Frost $200, Bomb $250, Sniper $320 (a 300 range covers most of the map), Tesla $450 (chains to 3), Plasma $600 (fires every 0.12 seconds). Upgrades cost 60% of base, times 1.7 per level. Kills pay $2 (red) to $200 (MOAB). A proven opening: Dart at the first curve, Bomb by wave 11, Sniper by wave 14, Frost for the late swarms.

A little real history

Overlapping fields of fire are not a game invention. Concentric castles like Krak des Chevaliers ringed an inner wall above an outer one so both could hit the same attacker; Edward I's Beaumaris made the layout textbook. Stacking ranges on one choke point is siegecraft, translated to balloons.

Difficulty & play time

Difficulty: medium to hard. Estimated time: 15โ€“30 minutes per map. Suggested age: 8+. Strategy game โ€” no fast reflexes needed, but plenty of forward planning. Pleasantly hard.

Frequently asked questions

How many maps are there?
Three, all open from the start: Meadow, Desert, and Frost. Frost's short path gives towers the least time to work; Meadow's long snake is friendliest.
Is there a save between rounds?
No, a run lives and dies in one sitting. Achievements (First Defense through MOAB Slayer) do persist in your browser between visits.
Can I undo a tower placement?
Right-click a tower to sell it for 60% of everything you spent on it, upgrades included. Useful when wave 13 lead balloons need a different damage type than wave 3 reds did.
